5 Mauritian Sweet Treats You Have to Try
Mauritius has a sweet tradition all of its own. Here are five favourites you’ll find in homes and bakeries across the island:
- Napolitaines: Two soft shortbread biscuits sandwiched with jam and topped with pink icing, a childhood classic.
- Gâteau coco: Sweet, chewy coconut bites, often tinted pink or white.
- Gâteau patate: A soft sweet-potato pastry with a sweet filling.
- Vanilla cake: Made with the island’s fragrant vanilla, light and perfect with tea.
- Tropical fruit tarts: Pineapple, mango and lychee on a buttery pastry base.
At Mauritian Pastries & Bakery, we bake our own versions fresh every morning. Which one is your favourite? Visit us in Quatre Bornes and tell us.
